In
EPI's networks, companies share best practices,
explore new knowledge, and construct focused process improvements.
New knowledge is created by bringing together leading thinkers and
practitioners from universities, consulting, and industry. Modeled
on the concept of "reflective practice," the networks
create a space where those responsible for product development can
discover, in informal conversations and formal presentations, new
ways of approaching issues and opportunities. Perhaps most
important, they can reflect on their own practices, compare them
with others, and discover new methods to bring back home. |

The
Enterprise Product Innovation Network focuses on the
implementation of new product process improvements. Day and a half
meetings are structured to allow: |
|
 |
learning
about selected topics from invited industry, university, and
consultant speakers |
 |
defining
an "implementable process" to address the area
generically |
 |
working
the issue for in-company implementation with experienced
facilitators and coaches |

Managing
Distributed Research & Development Centers
In early 1999 under the leadership of United Technologies, five
companies (United Technology Corp., Corning Inc., Delphi Automotive,
Lucent Technologies, and Fairchild Semiconductor Inc.) came together
to address how to improve the management of distributed R&D
activities. This study revealed critical solutions and lessons for
the participating companies and provided an assessment methodology
which each company learned and can now implement. This year, Eli
Lilly joined the network. The findings will be presented at the June
2001 IAPD workshop.
