The
results driver of EPI's integrated Planning Framework is the Product
Development Process. EPI's Product Development Process
is based on the traditional stage/gate process and is tailored to
meet the needs of client companies.
|
|
|
|
The
product development process provides a work plan for product
development teams, a prescription for cross-functional teaming, and
periodic business level reviews. Because our Product Development
Process is part of the Integrated Planning Framework, decisions
about individual projects are easily seen in the context of the
overall portfolio, pipeline, and product plan. Within this context,
management has the opportunity to create clear contracts with
product development teams and to monitor the on-going value of
in-process projects. |
|
|
|
The
front end of our product development process introduces new ideas
and concepts into the system based on Innovation Charters identified
in the Product Planning process, our Contextual Voice of the
Customer and Customer Commitment processes, and Informed Ideation. |
|
|
|
A
well-documented and fully implemented stage/gate process has been
shown to reduce time-to-market and improve overall development
effectiveness. Moreover many new practices - for instance, in
product definition, design for x, and portfolio/pipeline management
- depend on well-implemented stage/gate practices. Companies
typically can realize major benefits from efforts they put into
optimizing the stage/gate and associated processes. |

All
of EPI's processes bring people together to create common understanding
and consensual decision making. Our self-documenting processes and
the templates we provide help marketing, R&D, and others gather
and coordinate information, store it, where it can be accessed, and
format it to enable collaboration and consensus.
